Soil Organic Carbon Stocks in Mixed-Deciduous and Coniferous Forests in Austria

چکیده
Question: We compared the soil organic carbon stock of forests an entire country. The objective our research was establishing differences between coniferous or deciduous with respect to stocks. question is relevant because are increasingly damaged by abiotic and biotic disturbances that related climate change. Deciduous considered be less vulnerable. Their soils expected more persistent reliable sinks for dioxide. Methods: Soil data available from Austrian Forest Survey. Soils have been sampled on sites Inventory. were stratified according geology (calcareous vs. silicatic bedrock), orientation slopes, forest type (coniferous mixed-deciduous forest). These used establish ground truth Further, we had simulation results a coupled growth/soil model. scenarios built Inventory 2007/09 reflect business-as-usual management climate-change adaptation scenario where managers replace if site conditions permit it. simulations performed growth simulator CÂLDIS model Yasso07. Results: Based Survey stocks consistently higher than in forests. This result applies both litter layer mineral depth 50 cm. gradients similar types. under strong warming showed increase when conifers replaced tree species. In 150-year majority will become suitable build-up large driven stronger harvesting pressure remaining lesser demand developed light intervention regime. However, toward end century, temperature level far above present levels, declined.

Altitudinal variation in soil organic carbon stock in coniferous subtropical and broadleaf temperate forests in Garhwal Himalaya
BACKGROUND The Himalayan zones, with dense forest vegetation, cover a fifth part of India and store a third part of the country reserves of soil organic carbon (SOC). However, the details of altitudinal distribution of these carbon stocks, which are vulnerable to forest management and climate change impacts, are not well known. RESULTS This article reports the results of measuring the stocks ...
متن کاملSpatial distribution of soil organic carbon stocks in France
Soil organic carbon plays a major role in the global carbon budget, and can act as a source or a sink of atmospheric carbon, thereby possibly influencing the course of climate change. Changes in soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks are now taken into account in international negotiations regarding climate change. Consequently, developing sampling schemes and models for estimating the spatial distri...
متن کاملSoil Organic Carbon Content and Stocks in Relation to Grazing Management in Semi-Arid Grasslands of Kenya
Rangelands cover approximately 85% of Kenya’s land mass and is a major resource for livestock farming with a considerable potential to mitigate climate change, yet these lands are stressed differently by various management. Our study aimed at determining the influence of grazing management systems (rotational, continuous and ungrazed) on soil organic carbon stocks in Yoani ranch located in the ...
متن کاملEstimation of biomass, carbon stocks and soil sequestration of Gowatr mangrove forests, Gulf of Oman
The mangrove forest ecosystem is known to possess a variety of ecosystem services, including high rates of carbon sequestration, storage and mitigating climate change through reduced deforestation. This study was carried out in the mangrove forests of Gowatr Bay, Gulf of Oman during 2017-18 to quantify biomass and carbon stocks of all components of this forest, including live and dead trees, so...
متن کاملEcosystem carbon stocks in Pinus palustris forests
Longleaf pine (Pinus palustris Mill.) restoration in the southeastern United States offers opportunities for carbon (C) sequestration. Ecosystem C stocks are not well understood in longleaf pine forests, which are typically of low density and maintained by prescribed fire. The objectives of this research were to develop allometric equations for aboveand below-ground biomass and quantify ecosyst...
